Biographical / Historical
The composer was a brother of Ahumai and Hītiri and was killed with his father at the battle of Orakau. He composed the lament on the death of his wife, Hehiri, referred to in the son as 'Hiri' and whose mother, Kearoa, is referred to as 'Ke'
