Biographical / Historical
Sung by Maika Waaka | Te Whakarewarewa of Tūhourangi, who was one of the survivors of Te Wairoa village on the shores of Lake Tarawera, when this village was destroyed by the Mt Tarawera eruption of 1886. The singer was 12 years old at the time of the eruption and therefore 80 years old when he recorded this song for Pei Te Hurinui. The lamen is for Tūhournagi who perished in the eruption.
