Biographical / Historical
An elder of Te Arawa composed this lament because of the ill-treatment of his daughter by her husband of the inland Patea district at Taihape. The composer's daughter was an accomplished posture dancer. On the day her husband had beaten her she had performed on the marae and had been much admired by the large gathering present. The singers of this item also state that it belongs to Te Arawa.
