Biographical / Historical
Rua Kenana was the Messiah of Maungapohatu. Over breaches of the liquor laws, Rua was sent to Mt Eden prison. Whil ethere he composed this song to express his deep longing for some of his wives, particularly Te Apakura, who was said to be his main wife, and Raurimu by whom he had a child.
