Biographical / Historical
Composed when Te Kooti made his escape from the Chatham Islands. At this time Te Kooti believed that lives should not be taken. Without his knowledge a man was killed when the schooner in which he made his escape was seized. He blamed the lack of a favourable wind, and had the man responsible, Te Wārihi, thrown overboard.
