Biographical / Historical
The performer learnt this song while staying in Whanganui. He says it was composed by someone in Tokānu. Rawinia Murray gives the composer's name as Pēhi Turoa. According to Murray the composer fought with Te Heuheu against his own people and composed the song while travelling down the Whanganui River when his own people would not allow him to land.
