Biographical / Historical
The first pao was composed when Te Taite lost his seat in parliament as a result of Hoani Te Heuheu sponsoring someone else. The singer learned the song from the composer (ca. 1930) at the time of composition.
The second was composed for Pouparia Te Tuira who died overseas in World War II. In the announcement to this pao Tuira is announced in error for Te Tomo
