Scope and Contents

Stories and accounts of Tafahi told by Mosese Faka'osi and Pauteni Sioeli in conversation with Thomas Riddle. Recorded in Tafahi, Tonga, in September 1977.

Contents:

1. Mosese Faka'osi, with introduction by Thomas Riddle. Includes:
- The story of Seketo'a (a man who turns into a fish, very popular story).
- The story of the Fatu's (a group of rocks named after a family).
- The story of Pakofeloa, Masila, and Tala'au and the different rock mounds and caves in Tafahi (three shipwrecked sailors who met a sad fate in Tafahi).
- The story of Vīvī and the various stone walls in Tafahi (Vīvī built the stone walls).
- Talk about papaya (pawpaw) and mango.


2. Pauteni Sioeli, with introduction by Thomas Riddle. Includes:
- The story of Mafulufulu (Mafulufulu was a proud warrior).
- The story of Vaka Faka'osi (Vaka Faka'osi was a chief of Tafahi).
- The story of the epidemic sickness.
- Pauteni the poet (a funny love poem).
