Biographical / Historical

There is a shield called Tāwhirangi, the title of this pātere. It is a trophy for a hockey competition between Māori girls, mainly of Mataatua and Tūwharetoa descent. Tāwhirangi was a famous ancestress of Tūwharetoa of Kawerau (Mataatua) and Taupo (Arawa).
