Biographical / Historical
The performer here recites a series of famous sayings and proverbs of Ngāpuhi. They concer Moeahu, a Ngāti Hine warrior and Te Motuiti, a warrior descendant of Raumati who burned the Te Arawa waka. To the recordist the performer stated that the sayings were by Te Motuiti at Rawhiti welcoming Moeahu who sought peace after his people had fled to Hokianga while he was away battling Ngāti Pou elsewhere at Pouerua Pa, Ohāwai. In an announcement on tape the performer states that it was Te Motuiti who went to Te Rawhiti to make peace.
