Biographical / Historical

About the battle at Karanga between the Ngariki tribe and Kirikovi, who was chief of Akataura tribe at the time of Captain Cook (1777).

Kirikovi was among those who swam out to Cook's ship, and he received from Cook a metal axe which was afterwards used for slaying the human victims, or "fish", chosen as a sacrifice to the god Rongo.
