Biographical / Historical
The singer explains that when you sleep at night your best friend is your clock. When it rings you get up. He has no other mate, only the clock. In verse 4 he advises a woman visitor not to come to the front door, but to come to the back and knock at the window, as he doesn't want anyone to see her.
In an announcement to the song, the singer says the composer's wife was Tahiti.
