Biographical / Historical

Verses ii and vi missed on the tape. The last verse refers to long strokes of shearing sheep, but this implication is that of having intercourse. Matiu Pokai was a champion at shearing sheep; Paerangi was a tea-lady for the shearers who fell in love with Matiu and composed this song for him.
