Biographical / Historical

According to the singer this is by Mere Kotara. Te Ngīra, the husband of the composer, had died and was buried at Te Namu which is a hill in Whanaganui where the Alexander Library now stands. After the death of her husband, Mere lived with a man from Waikato. When she found out that he was already married, she composed this waiata.
