Biographical / Historical
Based on the story of a man named Tu and his wife Rei. They had one son. Rei also had two sons by a previous husband. When the three boys grew up, one day they went sailing canoes, the two in one canoe, and the one in the other. The single boy won the race. The other two got angry and fought the single boy who started to cry. While he was crying he said to the others "Tu is not your father". They appealed to the mother who told them to ask Tu who was their father. Tu tied them to the posts of the house. They sang this `Īmene to the posts of the house, chanting their genealogy to prove they came from the stock of Tu.
