Biographical / Historical
Potai was a leader of the Ngariki tribe who made a bid for power by arranging the murder of a number of his rivals but was killed by Potiki at the battle Akaoro (38th in the history of Mangaia). As a result of this battle, Ngati Vara regained supremacy from the Ngariki and Potiki became Lord of Mangaia.
