Biographical / Historical

Evening hymn. Mike Hopa explains that the karakia begins with a prayer to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The kaihari is the leader, in this case the minister of the church. 'Katoa' refers to the congregation. 'Ohaoha' denotes the people saying the prayer. 'Kura' denotes a pereson reading a chapter of the bible or a person giving a sermon. 'Kapai' signals the end of a verse or section.

Mike Hopa says this prayer was restricted when Tāwhiao went to Taranaki and spoke to Te Ua.
