Biographical / Historical

Ruānui was captain of the Māmari waka, which landed at Hokianga and is credited with bringing rats to New Zealand. This karakia is for calling the rats back after he had let them go. The rats are described running round the window of the meeting house, Ohaki, at Ahipara. When he called them they cam slipping and sliding down the banks.
