Biographical / Historical

This song is used extensively by Tūhoe of Ruatahuna-Ruatoki, by Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki of Waihirere, Gisborne, and by Ngāti Porou. Part certainly belongs to Te Aitanga-a-Mātani. It was used by Te Kooti Rikirangi and followers during the battle of Waerenga-a-hika near Gisborne in 1865.
