Research materials compiled for a history of the Methodist mission in the Solomon Islands which was not published. Includes research notes on Polynesian Methodist missionaries, biographical essays on Solomon Islanders, and notes on Solomon Island languages. Series 3 contains some significant original material gathered by Carter as part of his research: a translation of the diary of Ishmael Ngatu; papers of the Reverend John R. Metcalfe; and a diary of A.E. Stanford.

Photocopies of correspondence between family members John Metcalfe, his wife Ivy and daughter Elizabeth while John served as a missionary in the Solomon Islands during the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Elizabeth remained in Australia. The letters were lent to George Carter by Metcalfe's daughter, Elizabeth Corben with the expectation that they would provide research materials for a publication.
