Collection consists of a folder of photocopies of letters written by Charles William Egerton to his friend H.J. Allen in India who was then teaching at Presidency College, Madras. The letters contain interesting insights into university life, New Zealand social circumstances and Egerton's family life. The eleven letters date from 1894 to 1916.

Scope and Contents The bulk of the papers consist of the office records of a Cabinet minister, his earlier and later life being less fully documented. The correspondence covers family, business, political and social matters with a wide array of people in N.Z. and overseas, particularly the United Kingdom, U.S.A., and South Africa.
