University of Auckland historical collection. Part 2.

The material in this collection is additional to that placed in MSS & Archives E-8, the introduction to the inventory of which, dated 1979, reads as follows:

The bulk of the collection was gathered together following an appeal by Professor Keith Sinclair, in the April 1961 issue of University of Auckland Gazette to supply material relevant to the University’s history. Readers were invited to send in “reminiscences of conditions in the College, past academic battles, frank ‘character sketches’ of staff or councillors, old newspaper clippings or copies of correspondence”.

MSS & Archives 97/5, then, is material added since 1961, and therefore an extension of E-8. MSS & Archives 96/2, Keith Sinclair, Further papers 1978-1983, consists of Sinclair’s research notes and drafts for A History of the University of Auckland 1883-1983 (Auckland, 1983). The inventories of these three collections should be consulted together.

Section 6, Photographs, of MSS & Archives 97/5, however, includes (6.3, 6.4) photographs and colour slides deposited in the Library by the Information Office on 2 December 1993. These are photographs that have been taken for special occasions, or for use in University News.
